Projects

Lions is a community service organisation! People join Lions because they want to use their intellect, creativity, commitment and enthusiasm to get things done.  This is where you can find out about some of our Club projects.

Lions Medical Research Personality Quest

MonicaSponsored by the various clubs in Queensland and Northern New South Wales, the Quest offers the chance for women over 18 years of age to participate with their sponsoring club to raise funds for medical research. Golden Valley Keperra has been involved since 1972 and is one of the top fundraisers.

Our current entrant Monica, pictured on the left is busy with her team of able promoters and fundraisers, raising funds and promoting Lions Medical Research within Lions and the broader community.

Monica is a student at University of Queensland studying Master of International Hotel and Tourism Management (Event Management).

Future aspirations include owning an event management company.

For further information about the Quest you can visit their website Click Here. You can use the "back arrow" on your browser to return to Golden Valley Keperra.

Youth Exchange

We are committed to assisting the youth of our community by sponsoring and hosting young adults in the Lions Youth Exchange Program.

This program sponsors young adults to visit overseas countries and also allows those visiting from other countries to see first hand the many attractions that Australia has to offer.

Youth of the Year

This is an annual event where youths from local schools are invited to take part in a competition which involves interviews and public speaking. Winners at club level go on to compete at District, State and National Finals.

Children of Courage

These awards are designed to recognise children with special needs and their families. It is not competitive, with all nominees being given an award. There are three categories:

  • Children with special needs i.e. sight, hearing, speech impairment, wheelchair bound or long periods of medical treatment.
  • Courageous act or deed including great concern for others and bravery in the face of lifesaving medical treatments.
  • Outstanding sporting achievements in spite of great personal hardship or disadvantage.

A presentation ceremony is held in a party atmosphere to present the children with awards and gifts. Afternoon tea is also served.

Peace and Fire Poster Competitions

Magic Show

This is an annual event featuring professional magicians. Tickets are purchased by companies and individuals who donate them back to be distributed to various organisations for handicapped or disadvantaged children and young adults. The obvious joy of the thousands who attend these shows makes this one of our most memorable projects.
